by Practical Law Commercial
An update that considers the release of the Privacy Act Review Report (PARR) for public consultation marking the next phase in the comprehensive review of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). The PARR makes 116 proposals for wide-ranging reforms to the Privacy Act based on submissions already received in the course of the review, along with over 162 consultation meetings with industry and stakeholders and consideration by the government of relevant international data protection and privacy frameworks. This update provides a brief overview of the key reforms proposed by the PARR and links to a more comprehensive summary of the PARR in Article, Privacy Act Review: Summary of proposed reforms from the Privacy Act Review Report. It also links to a helpful checklist highlighting the issues identified in the PARR for further consultation and development (see Checklist, Summary of key issues for consultation from the Privacy Act Review Report).
